Primary text

After finishing recitation, one must remain standing and remain silent until one's composure is restored before bowing. The recitation should not be immediately followed by the Takbir (saying Allahu Akbar) for bowing. This practice is supported by narrations that the Prophet, peace be upon him, had two moments of silence: one at the beginning of the prayer and one after finishing recitation, as indicated in the Hadith of Samurah, narrated by Abu Dawud and others. Furthermore, the command in the Quran states, O you who have believed, bow and prostrate (Quran 2:77), and the Ummah has agreed upon the obligation of bowing for the capable person during prayer.
