Ruling when a resident (Muqim) misses a congregational prayer (Jumu'ah) while traveling and remembers it while resident.
Chapter on the Traveler's Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
If a resident forgets Jumu'ah while traveling and remembers it when he returns to his place of residence (Hadar), he must complete it as four rak'ahs as a precautionary measure. This ruling adheres to the general directive of the Hadith: 'Let him pray it when he remembers it.' Imam Ahmad adopted this view based on the apparent meaning of the Hadith.
Supporting text
There is unanimous agreement that if a traveler forgets a resident prayer and remembers it while traveling, he must complete it as four rak'ahs. This is because the obligation to pray four rak'ahs was established upon him, and deficiency in the count is not permissible, similar to a situation where he had not traveled.
