The ruling on shortening prayer for a traveler who reaches a locality where they possess family or property but have not intended to stay four days.

The prayer must be shortened (qasr) unless the traveler intends to remain for four days. This is the position of Al-Shafi'i and Ibn al-Mundhir, based on the reasoning that the person remains a traveler who has not yet formed the intention to stay for the period requiring completion of prayer.
