What is the ruling on a tooth extracted and then reinserted if it fastens back into the socket?
Chapter on Praying with Impurity and Other Matters
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
If a tooth falls out and is reinserted using its inherent warmth, and it fixes in place, it is considered pure because it is a part of the human being, and the human being in entirety is pure, living or dead. Therefore, its part is pure.
Supporting text
Al-Qadi states that it is impure, governed by the ruling of other impure bones, as what is separated from a living being is considered dead. The purity of the whole is decreed because of its sanctity, which is stronger than the sanctity of a part; thus, ruling the whole pure does not necessitate ruling the part pure.
