What is to be said during the prostration of recitation (Sujud al-Tilawah)?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
In prostration, one recites what is recited in prayer prostration. Ahmad states that he says, 'Subhana Rabbiyal-A'la' (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High). Aisha narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, used to say during the prostration of recitation at night: 'Sajada wajhi lilladhi khalaqahu wa sawwarahu, wa shaqqa sam'ahu wa basarahu, bi hawlihi wa quwwatih' (My face has prostrated to the One Who created it, formed it, split its hearing and sight, by His might and power). Al-Tirmidhi graded this hadith as Hasan Sahih. Furthermore, saying what the tree in the narration of Ibn Abbas said is also considered good, which included asking Allah to record a reward, remove a burden, keep it as a treasure, and accept it as He accepted it from His servant David.
