Is shortening the prayer permissible when a traveler has two routes to their destination, one long and one short, and chooses the long route?
Chapter on the Traveler's Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
Shortening the prayer is permissible if a traveler chooses a longer, permissible route to their destination, provided that the choice is a deliberate act of permissible travel. The allowance for shortening the prayer is granted because the individual is undertaking a permissible long journey, analogous to a situation where the shorter route was unavailable or involved fear or extreme difficulty.
