When rising from prostration to sit for a short rest before standing again, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, would bend his left leg and sit upon it, ensuring every bone returned to its position before standing up.

In the sitting for the two *rak'ahs*, the practice was to sit on the left foot while the other foot was kept upright (planted).
