What supplications are prescribed to be recited after the Tashahhud in the final sitting?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
It is prescribed to seek refuge in Allah from four things after the Tashahhud: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from the punishment of the Fire, from the trials of life and death, and from the trial of the Dajjal (Antichrist).' This is based on the Hadith of Abu Hurairah. Furthermore, it is permissible to supplicate in prayer with what has been narrated in the authentic reports. The Prophet (PBUH) confirmed the practice of a man who recited the Tashahhud and then asked Allah for Paradise and sought refuge from the Fire, stating, 'Around this we shall hum [our supplications].'

Some argue that one should only supplicate in the obligatory prayer using what is in the Quran. This view is strongly rejected, as numerous authenticated traditions contradict it. However, it is stated that after the Tashahhud, one may supplicate with what one knows and what has been narrated, not being strictly confined only to what is narrated.
