What supplications should be recited when leaving the house for prayer?
Chapter on Facing the Qiblah
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
It is recommended to recite the supplication narrated by Ibn Abbas, which includes asking Allah to place light in one's heart, tongue, hearing, sight, behind, in front, above, and below, and granting light overall. Additionally, it is recommended to recite the supplication narrated by Abu Sa'id when leaving the house for prayer, asking Allah by the right of supplicants and the right of one's walk, stating the departure is not for vanity, boasting, ostentation, or fame, but to avoid Allah's displeasure and seek His pleasure, asking for salvation from Hellfire and forgiveness of sins, in which case Allah turns His face towards him, and seventy thousand angels seek forgiveness for him. The person should also recite 'In the name of Allah, He Who created me and guides me' until 'except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.'
