Are there distinctions in the rules concerning facing the Qiblah for different types of voluntary prayers while traveling?
Chapter on Facing the Qiblah
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
There is no distinction regarding the necessity of facing the Qiblah among all voluntary acts of worship. This applies equally to unrestricted voluntary prayers (Nawafil Mutlaqah), Sunan Rawatib (regular confirmed Sunnahs), specified Sunnahs, Witr, and the prostration of recitation (Sujud al-Tilawah). The Prophet (peace be upon him) performed Witr prayer on his camel, and he performed Tasbeeh (glorification) on his camel, excluding the obligatory prayers (Fara'id).
