The prayer of repentance (*Salat at-Tawbah*) is obligatory upon a person who commits a sin. The ritual requires performing ablution (*tatahhur*), offering two Rak'ahs of prayer, and then seeking forgiveness from Allah Almighty. The evidence for this is the statement of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, narrated by Ali, who received it from Abu Bakr, stating: 'There is no man who commits a sin, then performs ablution, then prays two Rak'ahs, then seeks forgiveness from Allah Almighty, except that he is forgiven.' This is further supported by the recitation of the verse, 'And those who, when they have committed an indecency or wronged themselves, remember Allah...' (Quran 3:135) until the end of the verse.
