Is a traveler on a sinful journey permitted to wipe over leather socks (Khuffayn) for a period of one day and night?

Chapter on the Traveler's Prayer

Primary text

It is permissible for the traveler engaged in sin to wipe over his leather socks for one day and night. This is because wiping over the Khuffayn is not exclusive to permissible travel, making it analogous to Istijmar (cleaning after excretion with stones) and other dispensations applicable both in travel and settled life (Hadhar).

A dissenting opinion holds that wiping over the Khuffayn is not permitted because it is a dispensation specific to travel, and therefore should not be allowed for a journey involving sin, similar to other travel-specific dispensations. However, this view is refuted by the existence of other dispensations applicable in settled life that are still permitted.
