Is using a sutra (barrier) while praying obligatory for the one praying?

Primary text
It is legislated for the worshipper to pray toward a sutra. If praying in a mosque or a house, one should pray toward a wall or a pillar. If praying in an open space, one should place something prominent before them, such as erecting a spear or a stick, presenting the flank of a camel, or placing one's own foot before oneself. Ahmad confirmed that a traveler should use a sutra in both residence and travel, similar to the rear part of a saddle. There is no known disagreement regarding the recommendation (Istihbab) of this practice. The basis for this is the practice of the Prophet, who had a spear planted before him for prayer, and he prayed toward the flank of a camel presented to him. Evidence is found in the narration where the Prophet prayed two rak'ahs after setting up a spear, and a donkey and a dog passed between his hands without invalidating the prayer. Furthermore, the Prophet stated that if one places something before them equal to the rear part of a saddle, they should pray and not mind what passes behind it.
