Does the validity of the prayer change if the rope is tied to a pure part of the object carrying the impurity, as opposed to a directly impure part?
Chapter on Praying with Impurity and Other Matters
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
The established view states that if the rope is tied to a pure location on the item (like a large ship containing impurity), the prayer remains valid because the worshipper cannot follow or drag what is merely adjacent to the impurity. This is similar to holding a large ship containing impurity or a branch of a tree upon which impurity rests.
Supporting text
The opinion of Al-Qadi suggests that if the rope is tied to a location that is itself impure, the prayer is invalidated because the worshipper is then carrying something that is in direct contact with the impurity.
