Does voluntary intoxication from consuming a prohibited substance that temporarily removes reason void religious obligations (Taklif)?
Chapter on Prayer Times
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
Intoxication resulting from drinking a prohibited substance that temporarily removes reason does not negate religious obligations (*Taklif*). The intoxicated person remains liable for obligations missed during the state of intoxication and must make up what was missed.
Supporting text
There is no known disagreement on this ruling. The requirement to make up missed obligations is considered more binding in the case of prohibited intoxication than it is for permissible sleep, which likewise necessitates making up missed obligations.
