Is the act of hair extension (connecting one hair to another) permissible?

Primary text

Connecting hair with other hair is prohibited because the Prophet (peace be upon him) cursed the one who connects it (Al-Wasila) and the one whose hair is connected (Al-Mustawsila). This prohibition is supported by the narration of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) where a woman asked permission to connect her daughter's torn hair, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) responded by cursing the connector and the one connected. Furthermore, Mu'awiya narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade doing such things, stating that the Children of Israel were destroyed when their women adopted this practice.

Supporting text

If the connection is made with material other than hair, such as to tie up the head, it is permissible due to necessity, provided it is not excessive. If it is excessive, there are two opinions: one is that it is disliked but not forbidden, based on the narration of Mu'awiya specifically mentioning hair, thus restricting the prohibition to hair-to-hair connection. Another narration indicates that connecting the head with anything—hair, *qaramil* (a material), or wool—is forbidden, as anything connected constitutes *wisal* (connection).
