Whoever trims their nails while differing from the conventional manner, it is narrated that they will not suffer from eye inflammation (*ramad*).

Abu Abdullah Ibn Battah interpreted the differing manner (*mukhalifan*) as beginning with the little finger of the right hand, then the middle finger, then the thumb, then the ring finger, then the index finger. For the left hand, one begins with the thumb, then the middle finger, then the little finger, then the index finger, and finally the ring finger.
