What are the conditions for wiping over thick socks (Jawrab)?
Chapter on Wiping over the Khuffayn (Leather Socks)
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
Wiping over thick socks is permissible provided two conditions are met: the sock must be thick enough that none of the foot shows through, and it must be possible to walk continuously while wearing them. Ahmad permitted wiping over socks if they are worn, remain fixed on the feet, and allow walking without folding over to expose the area of Wudu. Wiping over socks is narrated from seven or eight Companions of the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him).
Supporting text
Some narrations from Ahmad suggest permissibility depends on whether the sock fixes itself at the heel, or if walking in it does not cause it to fold, as folding exposes the area of Wudu. It is not required that socks be made of leather.
