Is dyeing grey hair black disliked?
Chapter on Utensils
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
Dyeing hair black is disliked. Abu Abdullah confirmed this dislike. Evidence for this prohibition includes the narration where Abu Bakr's father, whose head and beard were white as snow (Thaghamah), was instructed by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to change the color but to avoid black. Furthermore, a narration from Ibn Abbas, raised to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warns that a people in the latter times will dye their hair black like the crop of the pigeon (Hawasil al-Hamam) and will not smell the fragrance of Paradise.
