Primary text
A utensil that has contained wine or similar impurities, such that washing does not remove the taste or color of the impurity from its body, is not purified by washing. This is because washing does not extract the parts of the impurity from the body of the utensil, rendering it impure, similar to sesame seeds impregnated with impurity. Regarding wine vessels specifically, the opinion stated is that those sealed with pitch (muzift) are purified by washing because the pitch prevents the impurity from reaching the body of the utensil. However, those not sealed with pitch absorb the parts of the impurity and are not purified by washing, as demonstrated when a fluid is placed inside and the taste or color of the wine appears.
