What is the effect on the purification of a woman in Istihada if her bleeding resumes shortly after a temporary cessation during which she performed ablution?
Chapter on Menstruation
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
If the bleeding resumes before she enters the prayer, and the cessation period was long enough to allow for both purification and prayer, her purification is invalidated because the cessation temporarily rendered her like a pure person, and the return of the blood acts as the reintroduction of impurity. If the cessation period was too short to allow for purification and prayer, the return of the blood does not affect her purification, as the initial state of impurity (Istihada) remains the governing factor, and this short cessation holds no ruling. This latter view aligns with the position of Al-Shafi'i.
Supporting text
If the bleeding resumes while she is already engaged in prayer following a cessation long enough for purification and prayer, there are two differing views on the validity of that prayer: one stating it is valid because her purification is confirmed to be valid due to the continuing Istihada, and another stating it is invalid because she prayed using a purification she was not entitled to use at that moment.
