Is excessive washing (Mubalaghah) recommended in Wudu (ablution)?
Chapter on Siwak and the Sunnah of Wudu

Primary text
Excessive washing is recommended in all parts of the Wudu. This is based on the command, "Perfect your ablution" (Asbagh al-Wudu). Excessive washing in rinsing the mouth involves circulating water deep within the mouth, reaching its furthest parts and cheeks. If water is swallowed during rinsing, the ablution is valid because the washing obligation has been fulfilled. Excessive washing in other limbs is achieved through thorough rubbing (Takhleel), tracing areas where water tends to avoid, massaging (Dalk and 'Arku), and exceeding the minimum required area during washing. Evidence supports this: Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, washed his face and hands up to the shoulders, and his feet up to the shins, stating that the Prophet said, "My Ummah will come on the Day of Resurrection with shining white faces and limbs due to the traces of ablution, so whoever among you can lengthen his shining light, let him do so." This is agreed upon (Muttafaq 'alayh). Furthermore, the Prophet stated, "The adornment of the believer will reach as far as his ablution reaches."
