Primary text

It is sufficient to perform Tayammum by transferring dust to the required area using an implement such as a cloth or wood. This is the opinion stated by Al-Qadi, based on the reasoning that Allah the Almighty commanded wiping, without specifying the implement, thus the implement is not restricted. The evidence supporting the validity of Tayammum with pure dust is found in the statement of Allah the Almighty: {Then make Tayammum with clean earth} (Quran 5:6). Impure substance is not considered clean, and since Tayammum is a purification, it cannot be performed with other than a pure substance, similar to Wudu (ablution).
