Primary text
It is not permissible to perform Istinja' with anything that possesses sanctity, such as that upon which jurisprudence or a Hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is written, due to the desecration of the Divine Law and the belittling of its sanctity. Such material is considered more egregious in its prohibition than dung or carrion. Furthermore, it is forbidden to use anything attached to an animal, such as its udder, offspring, the tail of a beast, or its attached wool.
