Primary text

It is permissible to wash only a portion of an impure garment, and only the washed part becomes pure. This ruling applies when water is poured over the specific part being cleaned in a basin (*jifnah*), resulting in purity for that part, even though the detached water becomes impure because it must contact a part that was not washed, thus becoming contaminated.

Supporting text

If a person immerses only a part of the impure garment into a small amount of stagnant water while agitating it, the water becomes impure, and nothing from the garment is purified. This is because the immersion itself causes the water to become impure, preventing purification from occurring.
