Primary text

It is recommended to add extra water when washing the face because it contains folds, hair, internal, and external areas, ensuring the water reaches all parts. Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, splashed water on his face three times after taking a handful of water with both hands, and then he poured water over his face from his right palm. Ahmad, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated that more water should be used for the face than for any other limb.

Supporting text

Muhammad bin Al-Hakam narrated that Abu Abdullah disliked the practice of taking water, pouring it, and then washing the face, considering it merely wiping rather than a proper washing (ghusl).
