It is recommended to wash the tips of the fingers after trimming the nails. It has been stated that scratching with the nails before washing them harms the body. The washing of the *barajim* (knuckles), mentioned in the Hadith of Aisha regarding *Fitra* (natural disposition), is interpreted by Al-Khattabi to mean cleaning the places where filth gathers, which includes the knuckles and the areas between them (*rawajid*).
