Loss of intellect, whether due to madness, fainting, intoxication, or similar mind-altering medication, invalidates ablution, both in small and large amounts, by scholarly consensus. Scholars agree that one who has fainted must perform *wudu*. This is argued because the sensory awareness of such individuals is more diminished than that of a sleeper, thus mandating *wudu* is a stronger emphasis than for a sleeper.
