What must a Mustahadah do regarding her ritual purity?
Chapter on Menstruation
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
If the bleeding of a Mustahadah stops, intercourse is permitted without her needing to perform Ghusl, as Ghusl is not obligatory upon her in that instance, resembling a woman experiencing urinary incontinence (Salas al-Bawl). Generally, the Mustahadah, or one suffering from constant urine flow, prostatic fluid (Madhy), or an unstaunchable wound, must perform Wudu (ablution) for every prescribed prayer after washing the site of impurity, binding it, and taking necessary precautions to prevent its escape. Specifically, the Mustahadah washes the area and packs it with cotton to retain the blood, following the instruction given to Hamnah, and if necessary, uses a cloth wrapped around her for containment ('Istithfar').

If blood still escapes despite these measures, and it is due to the weakness of the packing, she must re-pack and repeat the purification. If it escapes due to overwhelming flow that cannot be contained further, her purity is not invalidated because avoidance is impossible. Likewise, women experiencing menstrual spotting or staining during I'tikaf, or persistent flow, may continue praying, as reported concerning Aisha.
