Primary text
Plucking gray hair is disliked (*makruh*). The evidence for this prohibition is the report from Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade plucking gray hair, stating that it is the light (*nur*) of Islam. Furthermore, there is an account concerning Tariq ibn Habib where a barber attempted to remove a gray hair from the beard of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, but the Prophet held his hand and said, 'Whoever grows a gray hair in Islam, it will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection.' Both narrations are recorded by Al-Khallal in his Al-Jami'.
