What is the prescribed manner for performing Tayamum with a single strike?
Chapter on Tayammum
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
One must perform Tayamum with a single strike. The procedure involves wiping the face with the inner surface of the fingers. Then, wipe the back of the hands up to the wrists using the inner surface of the palms. It is recommended (Mustahabb) to use one palm to wipe the back of the other hand and to interlace the fingers, but this latter action is not obligatory because the obligation concerning the palms has been discharged by wiping the back of the hands.
Supporting text
The view of Ibn Aqil states that performing Tayamum with a single strike bypasses the sequence (Tartib) recommended in Wudu, specifically citing the wiping of the palms before the face. Regardless of whether it is done with one, two, three, or more strikes, if the area of obligation is completely covered after the wiping, the Tayamum is valid.
