Primary text

Purification is deemed sufficient if a small spot remains unwashed, provided the water from the second or third rinsing flows over that area. This is because washing it with the residual wetness is equivalent to washing it with fresh water, supported by various narrations. This view is supported by Ahmad, who accepted the narration concerning the Prophet (peace be upon him) rubbing a spot he missed with his hair. Another report mentioned that the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered a man who missed a spot to wring water over it with his hair. A narration attributed to Ali states that the Prophet (peace be upon him) told a man who missed a spot the size of a fingernail that wiping it with his hand would suffice.

Supporting text

Ahmad once stated that one should take fresh water, although he did not validate the specific narration concerning wringing the hair over the spot. The sound principle is that achieving the washing through the residual moisture of the main cleansing is sufficient.
