Is the recommendation for oiling the hair (*tadbīl*) to be done daily?

Oiling the hair is recommended to be done intermittently (*ghaban*), meaning one day yes and one day no. This is based on a narration transmitted by Al-Khall from Abdullah ibn Mughaffal, where the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, forbade combing (*tarajjul*) except every other day (*ghaban*). Imam Ahmad interpreted this prohibition as signifying the recommendation to oil the hair on alternating days.
