Is renewing Wudu (performing Wudu when already pure) recommended (mustahabb)?

Renewing Wudu when already in a state of purity is recommended. Ahmad stated this position, and it is narrated that he practiced it. The basis for this recommendation is the hadith stating: 'Whoever performs Wudu while pure shall have ten good deeds recorded for him.' Ibn Umar practiced this seeking the increased good deeds.

A narration from Ali ibn Sa'id quotes Ahmad as saying there is no specific merit in it, but the opinion supporting recommendation is considered more authentic.
