Is a ritual bath (Ghusl) obligatory if semen exits following a full ritual bath (Ghusl) that was performed after an initial ejaculation, regardless of the circumstances of the exit?

Chapter on What Necessitates Ghusl

Primary text

The obligatory nature of Ghusl in all circumstances is upheld, as the exit of semen itself constitutes a cause that necessitates Ghusl. This view is adopted by Al-Qadi in one narration and is the established doctrine of Al-Shafi'i, who holds that the exit itself is the consideration, analogous to other impurities (Hadath). Furthermore, the invalidity of restricting the requirement is demonstrated by the case where one engages in intercourse without ejaculation, performs Ghusl, and then ejaculates afterward; in this scenario, Ahmad explicitly mandates Ghusl, establishing that the subsequent discharge necessitates purification even when the initial prerequisite for Ghusl (intercourse) was met but without its typical consequence (ejaculation).

Supporting text

A single narration, attributed to Al-Qadi in a different statement, suggests no Ghusl is required, reasoning that since the initial event constituted one state of major impurity (Janabah), a second Ghusl is not necessitated, similar to if the fluid exited all at once.
