What is the ruling concerning the skins of foxes (Thāʿālīb) and wild cats (Sananir) regarding purity after tanning?
Chapter on Utensils
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
The ruling regarding foxes depends on the permissibility of their consumption (halal/haram). If they are deemed forbidden (haram), their skins carry the same ruling as the skins of other beasts of prey. Similarly, the ruling for wild cats follows this principle. However, concerning domestic cats, they are forbidden (haram).
Supporting text
There are two divergent narrations regarding the purity of the skins of cats (implying both wild and domestic, or specifically the domestic ones) after tanning.
