What is the ruling concerning a woman experiencing post-partum bleeding (Nifas)?
Chapter on Menstruation

Book of Purification
Primary text
The ruling concerning a woman in post-partum bleeding (Nifas) is the same as that of a menstruating woman (Ha'id) in everything that is forbidden to her and remitted from her. There is no known disagreement on this point. This includes the prohibition of sexual intercourse (wat'i) and the permissibility of non-penetrative touching and enjoyment below the vulva. The basis for this ruling is that the blood of Nifas is the blood of menstruation, whose exit was merely prevented during pregnancy for the nourishment of the fetus. Once the pregnancy ends, the vessel from which the blood flowed is severed, and the blood exits the passage, thereby establishing the same ruling as menstrual blood. However, Nifas differs from Hayd in that it does not count towards the waiting period (Iddah) because the Iddah is completed upon childbirth. Furthermore, Nifas does not indicate puberty, as it occurs after conception.
