What is the ruling on divorce during menstruation?

Divorce is prohibited during menstruation. This is derived from the Quranic verse: “When you divorce women, divorce them for their prescribed period” (Quran 65:1). Furthermore, when Ibn Umar divorced his wife while she was menstruating, the Prophet, peace be upon him, commanded him to revoke the divorce and retain her until she became pure.
