What is the ruling on the duration of wiping over leather socks for a resident (muqim) who performs ablution while resident and then performs the wiping?
Chapter on Wiping over the Khuffayn (Leather Socks)

Book of Purification
Primary text
Al-Sha'bi, Abu Thawr, and Ishaq hold that a resident may wipe for five obligatory prayers and no more. The primary position asserts that the duration is measured by time, not the number of prayers, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) established the limit by time (three days and nights). Therefore, a resident could potentially perform six prayers by delaying one prayer until after the wiping period expires, then performing wudu, wiping, and praying it, and then performing the next day's prayer early in its time before the wiping period ends. If the resident has a valid excuse for combining prayers (jam'), they might be able to perform seven prayers.

The evidence cited for the time-based ruling is the narration: 'From the minor impurity until the minor impurity' (min al-hadath ila al-hadath), and the argument that the time succeeding the minor impurity permits wiping, making it the starting point, just as the time after wiping counts.
