The blood of *istihada* (non-menstrual, persistent bleeding) invalidates ritual purity according to the majority of scholars. The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded the woman experiencing *istihada* to perform ablution for every prayer, even though her bleeding was rare and not customary.
