What is the ruling if the number of impure garments is unknown?

If the number of impure garments is unknown, one must pray in the garments in which one is certain the prayer was performed in a pure garment. If this becomes numerous and causes hardship, then conjecture is permitted according to one narration from Ibn 'Aqīl, to alleviate the hardship.

The second narration from Ibn 'Aqīl states that conjecture should not be employed because this situation is exceedingly rare and should not warrant a specific ruling; rather, the ruling should follow the usual prevalent case.
