Primary text

The ruling concerning the ablution of a Mustahadah is analogous to that of Tayammum (dry ablution). If she performs Wudu at the time of an obligatory prayer, she may perform that obligatory prayer with it, and subsequently perform any missed obligatory prayers (Qada), and voluntary prayers until the time of that prayer expires. This opinion is affirmed by Ahmad, and by analogy, she is permitted to combine two prayers with a single Wudu. The evidence supporting this ruling is derived from a narration stating, 'Perform Wudu for the time of every prayer,' which indicates the allowance to perform multiple prayers with one Wudu performed within the prayer time. Furthermore, the Hadith of Humnah suggests allowing the combination of two prayers with one Wudu because the Prophet, peace be upon him, did not instruct her to perform a new Wudu between the two prayers, an omission which would require clarification if it were necessary.

Al-Shafi'i holds that she may not combine two obligatory prayers with a single purification, nor may she use it to make up missed obligatory prayers, nor combine two prayers, holding a view similar to that regarding Tayammum. The statement of Al-Kharqi is also interpreted to imply that a new Wudu is required for every prayer, based on his phrasing, 'For every prayer.'
