Primary text
Circumcision is legislated for women (Yushra'u), though established as a Sunnah or a matter of honor, not obligatory. Evidence suggesting its practice comes from the Hadith: 'When the two circumcisions meet, Ghusl becomes obligatory,' indicating the practice among women. Furthermore, a report from Shaddad ibn Aws states circumcision is a Sunnah for men and a matter of honor for women. A report attributed to the Prophet (PBUH) instructed the circumciser ('Khāfiðah') to only trim (Ashimmi) and not cut deeply (wa la tanhakī), because moderate cutting leads to greater marital satisfaction ('aħzā li-z-zawj) and better facial appearance ('asrā li-l-wajh).

A report from 'Umar states, regarding a female circumciser, 'Leave something of it if you reduce (Khufaðt).' This tradition, alongside the Hadith specifying the prohibition of deep cutting, confirms the legality of female circumcision ('Khafd') while regulating its extent.
