Primary text

One opinion states that the emission of *madhy*, which exits intermittently due to arousal from the head of the penis, necessitates both ablution (*wudu*) and washing the male and female private parts. This is supported by the narration where Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) advised washing the male organ and the two testicles, and performing *wudu* upon this occurrence, based on a narration found in Abu Dawud, with agreement on washing the organ and performing *wudu* found in agreed-upon sources. The command implies obligation, and since it exits due to arousal, it necessitates an additional washing beyond what is required for urine, similar to semen. A single washing suffices because the commanded washing is absolute. The washing may occur before or after *wudu* as it is not linked to the *wudu* itself, like washing away general impurities.

An alternative view holds that only ablution (*wudu*) is required, citing the narration from Sahl ibn Hunayf where the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Ablution is sufficient for you regarding that." This view is held by the majority of scholars, including Ibn Abbas, and appears to be the position of Kharaqi. They argue that since it does not necessitate a full ritual bath (*ghusl*), it is akin to *wady* (post-urination fluid), and the command for washing the private parts is interpreted as recommended (mustahabb).
