Primary text

The ruling on human parts and limbs follows that of the whole body, whether separated during life or after death, as they are components of the whole. They are treated as other pure or impure animals, and since prayer is performed over them, they must be pure, like the whole body. This is supported by the fact that breaking the bone of a dead person is equivalent to breaking the bone of a living one, and prayer is performed over the deceased's remains.

Supporting text

Al-Qadi narrated a single narration stating they are impure because they lack sanctity, evidenced by the fact that prayer is not performed over individual parts. This is invalid because they do possess sanctity, evidenced by the ruling on breaking bones and the exception of a battle martyr who is pure but not prayed over.
