What is the ruling regarding the removal of pubic hair (al-Isthidad)?
Chapter on Utensils
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
The removal of pubic hair, termed 'al-Isthidad', is recommended (mustahabb). This is because it is considered part of the Fitra (natural disposition) and its neglect leads to ugliness, thus necessitating its removal. Any method used for removal is permissible, as the objective is merely its removal.
Supporting text
It is permissible for a man to remove his lower pubic hair using scissors even if it does not result in complete eradication. Plucking the hair is questioned due to the likely difficulty involved. Using Nura (depilatory cream) is also permissible.
