What is the ruling regarding a woman experiencing non-menstrual vaginal bleeding (Mustahadah) or incontinence remaining in the mosque?
Chapter on the Obligation of Purification
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
A woman experiencing non-menstrual vaginal bleeding (Mustahadah) or a person with urinary incontinence are permitted to remain in the mosque and pass through it, provided they are certain they will not contaminate (najasa) the mosque. This ruling is supported by the narration that one of the Prophet's wives was in I'tikaf (seclusion) while experiencing the bleeding, sometimes placing a basin beneath her while praying (Hadith recorded by Al-Bukhari). Furthermore, this type of impurity does not prevent the validity of the prayer, thus it should not prevent remaining in the mosque, analogous to minor blood loss from the nose.
Supporting text
If a Mustahadah fears contaminating the mosque, passage is not permitted for her. The same standard applies as requiring a menstruating woman to refrain from passing through if contamination is feared, as the mosque must be protected from such defilement, similar to protection from urine.
