Primary text

The impure animal is categorized into two types. The first, which is impure by a single narration, includes the dog, the pig, and whatever is generated from them or one of them. This entity is impure in its substance, residual drink, and everything discharged from it. This is the view of 'Urwah, Al-Shafi'i, Abu 'Ubayd, and Abu Hanifa regarding the residual drink specifically.

Malik, Al-Awza'i, and Dawud hold that their residual drink is pure, and it can be used for ablution and drinking, and if they lick food, eating it is not forbidden. Al-Zuhri stated it may be used for ablution if no other water is found. 'Abdah ibn Abi Lababah, Al-Thawri, Ibn al-Majishun, and Ibn Maslamah stated one performs ablution and then dry ablution (Tayammum). Malik required washing the vessel licked by a dog as an act of worship (ta'abbud).
