What is the ruling on touching books of Tafsir (exegesis), Fiqh (jurisprudence), or letters containing Qur'anic verses?
Chapter on the Obligation of Purification
Al-Mughni
Book of Purification
Primary text
It is permissible to touch books of Tafsir, Fiqh, and other writings, even if they contain verses from the Qur'an. This is evidenced by the Prophet's letter to Caesar which contained a verse, and because these writings are not termed Mus'haf and do not acquire its sanctity.

Regarding the touching of tablets by children in Maktabs (schools) that contain the Qur'an, there are two opinions: one permits it out of necessity to prevent aversion to memorization, and the other forbids it based on the general scope of the verse. Similarly, regarding coins upon which the Qur'an is written, one view forbids touching them as the Qur'an is inscribed, resembling paper, while another view permits it because they are not named Mus'haf and avoiding them presents a hardship, similar to the children's tablets.
