What is the ruling on using food remnants for Istijmar?

The prohibition on using food remnants is understood implicitly. This is because the Prophet (peace be upon him) cited the reason for prohibiting dung and bones as being the provision of the Jinn; therefore, food, which carries a greater prohibition due to sanctity, is certainly forbidden.
